The German system is one of the best in the world in terms of efficiency and speed. The people of Stuttgart have protested loudly over a mad plan to build the station underground, but I don't think they will be able to stop the project. On Sunday the state holds its local elections and it's a possibility that the next Minister President could be a Green - if he wins, the railway construction project (plus Frau merkel's blatant U-turn on nuclear power stations) could see him into the job.
